How the Map Works
The map is essential once Manhattan begins folding, shifting gravity, and opening routes above and below the street level. A completed zone map makes return trips for upgrades, collectibles, vendors, and unfinished quests far less confusing.
Control Resonant uses a connected, open-ended Manhattan rather than one uninterrupted open world. Story progress unlocks new paths, while traversal powers reveal shortcuts and let Dylan reach rooftops, vertical streets, and isolated platforms.
Each major outdoor zone has a Map Kit system. Interior mission spaces, including the Patterned Factory, may not provide a usable map, so expect to navigate those areas through landmarks and exploration.
| Map feature | What it does | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Map Kit | Reveals a zone’s detailed in-game map | Shows routes and key points of interest |
| Sensors | Power the Map Kit pylon | Three are required in each mapped zone |
| Fast-travel doors | Connect activated checkpoints | Makes cleanup and vendor visits quicker |
| FBC crossings | Link major zones | Mark the reliable routes between regions |
| Interior dungeons | Usually lack a detailed map | Require careful landmark-based navigation |
Prioritize the Map Kit when you first arrive somewhere new. It is usually safer to activate the local fast-travel door first, then search for sensors, because a death or detour will cost less time.

All Seven Map Zones
The control resonant map is divided into seven major zones, each with distinct threats, traversal demands, and story connections. Central is the most important early hub, while the later areas become increasingly surreal and vertical.
| Zone | Main identity | Useful landmarks and connections |
|---|---|---|
| Downtown | Starting district around the Oldest House | Artist’s Plaza, Oldest House, early checkpoints |
| Central | Main hub with mixed Hiss and Mold threats | FBC Field Office, Field Hospital, routes to other zones |
| Evacuation Zone | Rainy, Hiss-heavy district | Main Street, Sinkhole, Evac Building |
| West Incursion Zone | Patterned streets with extreme gravity | House of Mirrors, theater, Atlantis Cafe |
| The Park | Mold-dominated outdoor area | Park Valley, parking garage, sewer access |
| Underpass | Deep subterranean zone | The Spire, warped pillars, underground routes |
| Unknown | Final airborne Patterned area | Floating islands and late-game paths |
Downtown
Downtown is the first zone and the easiest place to learn the map system. It contains the Oldest House, common Hiss enemies, and several rooftop routes that teach basic movement. Its Map Kit sensors sit close to the central pylon, making this the least demanding map unlock.
Use Downtown to get comfortable recognizing sensor lights, climbing short structures, and locating fast-travel doors. Return later when new abilities make blocked rooftops and hidden rooms easier to reach.
Central
Central functions as the practical center of Manhattan. The FBC Field Office provides story context and missions, and the district connects to several other regions. It also contains the Patterned Factory, an interior area that does not offer the same map support as the outdoor zone.
Because Central is revisited often, activate its Map Kit and fast-travel door early. It is also a strong place to check vendors, collect upgrades, and begin routes into the Park, West Incursion Zone, and Evacuation Zone.
Evacuation Zone and West Incursion Zone
The Evacuation Zone lies southeast of Central and is defined by heavy Hiss resistance and the Sinkhole. Its rainy lighting can hide sensor lights, so search rooftops slowly and use the Main Street fast-travel door as your reference point.
West Incursion Zone is west of Central and becomes much easier once you have better movement options. Patterning distorts the area’s gravity, including streets that turn vertical. The House of Mirrors theater is a useful anchor when exploring, and the Map Kit pylon stands in the town square nearby.
The Park, Underpass, and Unknown
The Park sits northeast of Central and is heavily affected by Mold. Its routes often reward vertical movement, especially around the parking garage. Mold hazards and stronger enemies make it wise to unlock the local map before pursuing distant collectibles.
The Underpass is a late-game underground environment beneath Manhattan. Its massive Spire is the best navigation landmark, and the nearby pylon can be seen from the platform after you arrive. Clear the dangerous Hiss around the area before crossing the surrounding columns for sensors.
The Unknown is the final zone, where Patterning has fragmented the city into airborne islands and debris. Expect navigation to rely more on traversal abilities than conventional streets. Save this region’s optional cleanup until you have opened its fast-travel access.
Unlocking Every Map Kit
Every mapped zone follows the same basic process: find three sensors, activate them, then return to the central pylon. Sensors are identified by their blinking red lights, though weather, enemies, and unusual geometry can make them hard to spot.
Follow this order whenever you enter a new district:
- Find and activate a nearby fast-travel door if possible.
- Locate the map pylon, marked with a pylon icon.
- Look for three blinking red sensor lights around the pylon.
- Activate each sensor manually.
- Return to the pylon and interact with it to claim the Map Kit.
- Open the map and place a personal route through nearby objectives.
| Zone | Pylon reference point | Sensor search advice |
|---|---|---|
| Downtown | Central area near early tutorial routes | Check north, northeast, and the fenced basketball court southeast |
| Central | Western plaza on orange portable offices | Search nearby blue and orange containers |
| Evacuation Zone | Roof south of Main Street | Scan nearby roofs; one is beside a “Speed You Can Trust” sign |
| West Incursion Zone | Town square by House of Mirrors | One sensor is on a vertical street northeast of the pylon |
| The Park | Rooftop in the central area | Check the mold-filled ditch and nearby buildings |
| Underpass | Below The Spire | Sensors sit atop north, east, and south columns |
| Unknown | Late-game central route | Use floating landmarks and secure a checkpoint first |
Map Kit activation does not reveal every secret outright. It improves orientation, but some markers may represent a collectible on another elevation, within an underground route, or behind an ability barrier. Treat the map as a planning tool rather than an exact floor-by-floor tracker.

Navigation, Fast Travel, and Cleanup Routes
Fast-travel doors are the backbone of efficient exploration. You can only travel to doors you have personally activated, so open them whenever you encounter one, even if you do not need it immediately.
A good cleanup route begins at a fast-travel door, not at a random collectible. Check the map for nearby clusters, then combine goals: grab an upgrade point, visit a vendor, clear an ability barrier, and collect lore during one loop through the district.
| Need | Best map habit |
|---|---|
| Finding collectibles | Sweep one section at a time after unlocking its Map Kit |
| Reaching vendors | Fast travel to the closest named door, then follow rooftops or alleys |
| Clearing ability barriers | Mark them and return after unlocking the required power |
| Hunting upgrades | Pair Health or Power Upgrade Points with nearby side activities |
| Finishing quests | Use Central as the reset point between regional objectives |
| Avoiding confusion | Follow recognizable landmarks instead of chasing a straight map line |
Some routes intentionally become easier later. Ground Slam can break rooftop panels, Ignite or Inferno can clear Mold growth, and weapon shots can trigger certain control panels. Keycards also open many locked FBC rooms, so do not assume a closed door represents a missed route.
Vendors are particularly useful during map cleanup because they support build changes, upgrades, and outfit collection. Listen for ice cream van music when exploring: it often signals that a vendor is close. Most zones have one, including Downtown, Central, West Incursion Zone, The Park, Evacuation Zone, Underpass, and Unknown.
For 100% progress, work by category instead of trying to collect everything during the main story. Separate passes for Secret Hideouts, cameras, testing facilities, taxis, dogs, outfit items, and lore records make the map far easier to manage.
FAQ
How do I unlock the control resonant map?
In each of the seven main zones, activate three nearby sensors with blinking red lights, then return to the zone’s Map Kit pylon and interact with it. The completed Map Kit reveals that zone’s detailed map.
How many zones are in Control Resonant?
There are seven main zones: Downtown, Central, Evacuation Zone, West Incursion Zone, The Park, Underpass, and Unknown.
Why are some locations missing from my map?
Some interior areas, such as the Patterned Factory, do not have full maps. Other markers may be above, below, or behind an ability barrier, so revisit them after gaining new traversal powers or key items.
Can I fast travel anywhere?
No. You can only fast travel between doors that you have already activated. Open every fast-travel door you encounter to make later exploration and collectible cleanup much faster.
