Why Quest Boards Matter
The control resonant quest board is the quickest way to turn free-roam exploration into useful progress. Each board offers short FBC Tasks such as eliminating hostiles, reaching survey points, carrying packages, or escorting Rangers to safety.
There are seven boards across Manhattan, with six available tasks per board. That creates 42 possible FBC Tasks, while the Diligent Consultant achievement only requires 20 completed tasks. You can therefore focus on objectives that suit your preferred route and combat style instead of clearing every assignment.
FBC Tasks are optional mini quests rather than Side Stories or main missions. They are especially useful between major objectives, when you want materials for upgrades or need a clear reason to revisit an already explored zone.
| Quest activity | What you do | Helpful approach |
|---|---|---|
| Collect Packages | Recover designated FBC supplies | Clear nearby enemies first so you can move freely |
| Defeat Hostiles | Eliminate enemies in a marked area | Bring your strongest combat build for fast completions |
| Destroy Object | Find and destroy an anomalous target | Check vertical spaces and side rooms around the marker |
| Escort Rangers | Lead FBC agents to safety | Stay close and remove threats before advancing |
| Scout Location | Reach a specified point | Use fast travel and unlocked traversal abilities |

Unlocking the FBC Task System
You cannot use the boards immediately. First, travel to Central and approach the Field Office entrance. An unmarked NPC outside the office introduces Dylan to FBC Tasks and activates the board system.
The character stands near the Field Office map label, around the “O” in “Office.” Listen for a nearby call for attention and look for the red interaction prompt. The first board is beside this NPC, just outside the entrance.
If the NPC is absent or cannot be interacted with, continue the main story. The task system is tied to story progression, so advancing through the early Central objectives should make the introduction available.
After the initial conversation, boards appear in FBC safe areas throughout the city. A board may not be obvious from a distance, but its map icon appears once you get close enough.
Use this order to get started:
- Progress through the opening and reach Central.
- Visit the Field Office exterior and speak with the unmarked FBC contact.
- Check the nearby Central board to confirm that tasks are available.
- Explore other safe zones and approach their FBC locations to reveal additional board icons.
- Accept tasks that match your current destination rather than making unnecessary cross-city trips.
A board does not represent a permanently missable checklist. FBC Tasks can be cleaned up during post-story free roam, making them a good late-game completion activity as well as an early source of upgrade materials.
| Unlock step | Location | Requirement |
|---|---|---|
| Meet the FBC contact | Central, outside Field Office | Reach the appropriate early story progress |
| Use the first board | Central, beside the Field Office entrance | Speak with the contact |
| Reveal regional boards | FBC safe zones across Manhattan | Travel close enough for their map markers |
| Access later boards | Underpass and Unknown | Advance story and traversal-related progress |
All Quest Board Locations
Every major zone contains one FBC Task Board. Most are located in FBC bases or recognizable landmarks, but a few require story access or a short traversal detour.
| Zone | Quest board location | Access notes |
|---|---|---|
| Central | Outside the Field Office, near the FBC contact | This is the introductory board |
| Downtown | Inside the Oldest House main lobby, in the right-hand corner | Enter from the street-level lobby |
| Evacuation Zone | Outside the Evac Building, inside the yellow container structure | Climb onto the container building |
| West Incursion Zone | Inside the House of Mirrors | Explore the building interior |
| The Park | Rooftop FBC Base | Reach the roof by powered elevator or alternate route |
| Underpass | Beyond the cable car, in the Research Site building | Available during later Underpass story progress |
| The Unknown | Near the Oldest House fast-travel point | Full exploration benefits from Pope’s Research |
The Downtown board is easy to overlook because it is inside the Oldest House rather than outside at a standard base. Enter the main lobby from the street and check the right corner. Once you are nearby, the board should receive a map marker.
The Evacuation Zone board sits near the Evac Building, but its elevated container position can make it seem missing. Look for the yellow container building outside, then climb up and enter it.
The Park board requires more effort. The direct route involves restoring power to the elevator at the FBC Base. An alternate path runs through the northeastern sewers, after which you can climb past blue Mold near the street and reach the rooftop. Enter the guarded door on the roof to find the board.
The Underpass board is naturally later because the cable car route becomes available during the main quest “Recursions and Iterations.” Do not spend time trying to force access before that route opens.
The Unknown board is close to the Oldest House fast-travel point. Pope’s Research helps open the area fully, so leave this board for later if exploration barriers remain.

Completing Tasks Efficiently
Treat FBC Tasks as flexible route planning, not as chores to clear in board order. Before accepting an objective, compare its zone with your active main mission, Side Story, and any unfinished exploration work nearby.
Scout Location tasks are often the fastest if you already have the relevant fast-travel point and traversal ability. Defeat Hostiles tasks can also be efficient during a World Feat or while revisiting an enemy-heavy district.
Escort Rangers deserves more caution than its simple objective suggests. Move steadily, but do not rush ahead and leave your allies exposed. Clear hostile groups before pushing toward the next safe stretch, especially in cramped or vertical combat spaces.
Destroy Object tasks may take longer than the quest description implies. Search above ground level, behind environmental obstacles, and in adjacent interiors when the marker seems close but the target is not visible.
These task types work well with different play styles:
- Choose Defeat Hostiles if you want combat practice, materials, and a straightforward objective.
- Choose Scout Location when your map is incomplete or you are already traveling through a new district.
- Choose Collect Packages for short exploration loops around a known safe zone.
- Choose Escort Rangers when you prefer a more structured encounter with allied FBC agents.
- Choose Destroy Object if you enjoy searching for hidden environmental targets.
World Feats are separate from FBC Tasks, even though both appear during open-world play. Activities such as Air Drop, Hiss Hive, Pattern Break, Mold Infestation, and Apex Hunt can happen around the city independently of a board assignment. Completing them can complement your task runs, but they do not replace board progress for Diligent Consultant.
The campaign also contains distinct quest categories. Main Story missions advance Dylan Faden’s containment effort, Search for Jesse missions send him through Dimensional Faults, and Defeating Resonants tracks major bosses. Side Stories are authored optional quests with their own characters, puzzles, and rewards. The control resonant quest board is instead built for repeatable, compact objectives.
For the achievement, prioritize convenience. Since only 20 of 42 tasks are needed, skip any assignment that sends you across the city for an objective type you dislike. You can revisit a board later and select work that fits your current area.
FAQ
How many task boards are in Control Resonant?
There are seven FBC Task Boards: Central, Downtown, Evacuation Zone, West Incursion Zone, The Park, Underpass, and The Unknown. Each board offers six FBC Tasks.
How do I unlock the control resonant quest board?
Speak to the unmarked FBC NPC outside the Central Field Office. If the NPC is unavailable, continue the main story and return later.
How many tasks are needed for Diligent Consultant?
Complete any 20 FBC Tasks. You do not need to finish all 42 available tasks.
Can FBC Tasks be completed after the story?
Yes. Unfinished FBC Tasks remain available during free roam after the campaign, so none need to be rushed before the ending.
Why is an FBC Task Board missing?
The board may require more story progress, nearby map discovery, or access to a later route. The Underpass board requires the cable car area, while The Unknown is easier to explore after Pope’s Research.
